eBay Bans Sellers from Leaving Negative Feedback for Buyers

SELLER'S ALTERNATIVES TO LEAVING NEG. FEEDBACK

Does anyone know about the bidderblacklist (.com)? Side note: I put it like that instead of a link so I won't get kicked off. The new and looks to be very promising website just has the introduction page so is not fully in force yet, but seems would be a powerful tool for sellers to use. We could all mention it in the terms section of our description - such as I reserve the right to cancell bids from buyers listed on the OBB - Online BIDDERSBLACKLIST. or something of that nature. That would make any buyer think twice before trying to hold a seller hostage and helps level the playing field as far as being able to leave honest feedback. Who says feedback (or suggestion of leaving neg. feeback as leverage) has to be left on the ebay site to be effective! Lets ban together and use the bidderblacklist, created especially for ebay sellers, as soon as it's fully up and running! Note- I'm not affiliated with the site, but I do think it's GENIUS!

NEW FEEDBACK POLICY SUX

Having problems with feedback all of a sudden??? here is a copy of the complaint I just sent to ebay.. this is gonna be a real problem for any seller on ebay Dear ebay ur new feedback policy SUX!!! please review this if u need a good laugh !!!220248287427 look what u are encouraging I refuse to do business with a company that has no respect for the customer ME The pop up that comes up to tell the customer to leave honest feed back gives the appearance that they are expected to leave negative feedback I can only assume that ebay does not need sellers anymore since I have been penalized in best match searches for not having the good feedback that ebay expects, yet they are encouraging the leaving of negative feedback which lowers my sales abilities making it look like I am not a good seller Ebay I believe you have lost your mind(s) I am only to assume that u have way to many buyers and no further need for sellers I do intend to close my store shortly if this new policy stays in effect as that there is no way I will do business in this kind of enviroment and my regards to the machine that reads this and sends me back a form letter dixie969 cc every ebay forum I can post this on I am a powerseller I guess I can kiss that goodbye too

not allowing negative feedback

WOW! You guys are getting harder and harder to even email too. the new policy to increase shopper confidence by not allowing negative feedback is anything but giving anyone confidence. Now I have no way of judging a potential customer. My company, at my advice tried to sell on eBay and have ended up will a bad buyer the first sale and they still have an issue with eBay charging $250.00 for a sale that never went threw. And now you say you cannot tell other people about that bad buyer. I must say at this point I am recommending to everyone I know, that eBay is an unsafe place to do business.

What is going on? Is anyone else haveing this problem too?

Wow...Five upaid items last month....Three more this month so far. Customers buy and are not paying. Is this a sign of the economy? I have not had this many unpaid items in the entire four or five years of selling here. 99.9% of them have less than 5 feedback ratings so they are new with no sign of a new ID. This is happening in auctions and store items. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Ed

Increasing sales.

I was wondering if Ebay could make the "marked as watched" visible to all buyers looking at the auction. If they see there are other buyers are interested, they might make the purchase. I get alot of auctions marked as a watch, but not making the purchase. This could increase sales quit a bit. I better get on this one before some one else buys it.

EBAY NO LONGER ALLOW'S SELLER'S TO LEAVE BUYER'S A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!

HI SELLER'S, Ebay has decided to open up a playground for buyer's to screw up our auction's,in the last two week's i have had buyer's not pay,i can not leave them a negative feedback, that way they can go out and mess up another seller's auction. They are now only protecting the buyer's.We sell something and get a good price for a item, they don't pay,we have to wait a week to relist,in the mean time, your second highest bidder has bought something else, this new rule suck's.They said they changed it where people would not be leaving each other negative's in retaliation .Well now us the seller can leave no negative's and they can still leave us one,and we can not even comment back,we make ebay money, but we get no protection in return, they say the buyer will get a strike and eventually may get suspended, who know's how long that will take.probaly never. With all the new price hike's and new feedback rule's it show's us one thing, ebay is all about the money, not protection,us seller's are getting to where we don't have much protection, this new no negative feedback for buyer;s is about the most stupid thing ebay could do,post your comment and e-mail ebay about this stupid rule,we the seller's should be protected to,jtw

EBAY AND THEIR RESTRICTIONS

I have been an ebay memember for over a year now and after spending the last 3 months doing research on the best way to sell I finally reached the point were I was ready to start listing 6 or more auctions a week. Yesterday I discovered that ebay wont let me list anymore of the type of auctions for the next 3 I had planned on doing for the next 30 days because they claim I just don't have enough history. My feedback is 100% I take alot of time to list just one auction and follow the rules. How does ebay expect new sellers to obtain alot of good history if we can't sell the types of items we choose to sell?????? I am now sitting on items I purchased for the sole reason of selling over Christmas time. Ebay took my listing fee and if something does not sell the first time I have to wait 30 days to re list...THIS IS UNREAL!!! Now I will have to use other sites to sell the great items I have. I am to the point of tears thinking of all the time and effort I put into this only to be told I cant sell the great items I have . I even spoke with a ebay representative and he even commented that my auctions are what ebay is looking for. The only way I can find to describe how I feel is heartbroken

international deal with a few red flags.

I have an international buyer that wants something. It is a item and a service. He goes on to say money is no object. (wish I could say that) He has low feedback (1) and has not had an ebay transaction in over 2 years! As far as the item goes, no problem. But about the service, I can bill/invoice him through paypal separately from the item, for the service, as it is not something offered on ebay. Lets say this is a scam, and he files a claim. I know how a dispute for the item works and ends! But I have no idea about how the invoice/payment for the service would come out. Can they file a dispute or charge back against an invoice for a service rendered? I can take the loss of the item, but the service would require time and out of pocket expenses which I can not afford to lose. Buyer is in Canada. I am thinking maybe I should require payment by money order, but I don't know if Canadians can get USPS Money Orders. Any suggestions or advice on the best way to make this deal happen and protect myself at the same time? Thanks in advance for any and all help...

WHAT GOOD IS DECLARING A RETURN POLICY OF ANY TERM OF SALE?

What is the use of terms and no refund policies when selling on Ebay? As a seller, you draft an auction page that includes a description of the item, its condition, shipping terms, and whether or not there is a Return Policy. Soon Ebay will require all sellers to specifically state whether or not there is a Return Policy. A lot of sellers include 'All Sales Final' or No Returns No Refunds' language in the auction. But what real good are the terms, description or Return Policy. When a Buyer places a bid on an item, Ebay makes the Buyer confirm the fact that the Buyer is entering into a contract to purchase the item, a contract which includes the terms specified in the auction. However PayPal could care less, though PayPal is owned by Ebay. The seller delivers the item exactly as described, but the Buyer changed his or her mind. After exchanging e-mails thru Ebay or directly, the Buyer is reminded there are no returns. However, some Buyers could care less and return the item anyway. Then the Buyer files a 'Significantly Not The Same' claim with PayPal. Then the claim is escalated. The seller responds, makes statements in cooperation with PayPal requests, sends or uploads supporting documents and the like. Doesn't really matter. Regardless of what is stated in the listing and regardless of whether the seller even receives the returned items, PayPal could care less. While Ebay confirmed the creation of a contract, PayPal throws away and completely disregards and terms of the contract confirmed by Ebay. This is true even though Ebay and PayPal are basically the same company, just different divisions of the same company (if you will). I know there will be pro Ebay and pro PayPal responses to this posting suggesting how important customer satisfaction is to selling, and it is important. But customer satisfaction is made by quick shipping of the item exactly described in the auction. Alleged dissatisfaction comes when the buyer changes his or her mind and makes up any excuse possible to tell PayPal why the funds should be refunded. But the pro Ebay and pro PayPal responses will not include any rationale why Ebay confirms the creation of a contract but PayPal disregards any contract terms. So exactly what good is there in drafting an auction with any terms and conditions? Why is there going to be a mandatory statement required indicating whether or not there is a Return Policy when PayPal (Ebay) could care less about any term of the contract created?

Featured Plus Upgrade

I purchased the 30 days Featured Plus upgrade for a Store Inventory item. I thought that by doing this, my item would be in the Featured List at the top of any search done for items similiar to mine. What I realize now is that my item is only featured at the top of Store Items not in the Featured List at the top of regular auction items. Is this true or am I not seeing something. So if I purchase a Featured Plus on a auction item, how long will the Featured Plus be available on this item, 7 days, 30 days, will it still be there if I relist this item. The help section is not much help here. Anyone that can take the time to help me out, I would really appreciate it.

What are you doing to improve sales in this economic slump?

Good morning, My husband is an avid poster in here but this is my first post. We sell jewelry on this account and sales have really been slumping for us. I wanted to start a thread where sellers might post their ideas to help increase sales in these trying times. So powersellers, jump in and tell us what you are doing to boost your sales and maybe we can help each other a bit. One of the ideas I'm starting to use is to add a free gift when a certain level of items are purchased on the same shipper. We've started offering free 14K Studs with any 3 items purchased on the same order. It has helped a bit but I could use more ideas. Thanks Pamela Steven said to say HI! to JUDY, BOB, MOXA and the gang

Why I will insure every package from now on!

Hey all I purchased something off ebay recently. ( duh, dont we all?) The confermation came to my email telling me it was delivered. The address and other info was correct. But to my dismay, no package was at my back door as described in the email. Thankfully, the item was insured, and my seller immediately refunded my money saying he will deal with the carrier. Makes me wonder though if some people would have the gaul to say they never recieved the package when in fact they did??? How would we ever protect ourselves from this happening without insurance? On another note ... what is the process for the seller to make a claim and get paid? How long does it take? The carrier was UPS. Klyde

Fast Shipping

I'm continually amazed by the feedback that we receive on our selling ID. Nearly every comment includes phrases such as "Fast shipping", "Really quick ship", "Lightning Fast Shipper", etc. Our shipping DSRs are 4.9 and 4.8 respectively. Many of these comments are from customers in Zone 8. We ship within two business days; and state that on our listings. I consider that to be standard service. Usually, we ship either the same day, or the next business day. The one time we didn't meet our two-day standard, I refunded the buyers shipping cost in full, and sent an email profusely apologizing for the delay. To say they were surprised would be an understatement. Granted, we do include an estimated delivery date in our standard 'Thank You' email. That date depends on the shipping method chosen: 7 days from shipping date for Priority Mail, 14 days for Parcel Post, 2 days for Express Mail, 30 days for First Class International, 14 days for Priority Int'l, and 7 days for Express Int'l. (I chose those times to account for occasional delay experienced in the mail system.) Also, I figure it helps that we are located near the Indianapolis International Airport, which houses the second-largest FedEx sorting center in the U.S.; and the fact that USPS has contracted with FedEx for air delivery of parcels between cities. I have not experienced any major shipping delays in my personal purchases. But, I don't buy high-fraud items either. (You can check my feedback and/or buying history on this ID if you wish.) My experience has been good, except for a few non-deliveries, for which I was refunded by PayPal. My question is this: Do buyers expect slow shipping on eBay? I mean really? I realize that there are a lot of casual sellers here who don't ship everyday. But still, has the expectation become so low that we are able to offer exceptional service, as our standard service. I'm certainly not complaining at all; just wondering what the experience has been of the other fine members of this board?

Refund, or not???

I recently sold a book. In the listing I mis-described the item, and the buyer brought it to my attention. The book was usless to them. I gladly offered a full refund, including shipping in both directions. The person thanked me for the offer, but said it was too much trouble to take the book to the post office. Should I send the refund anyway? My policy indicates that the item needs to be returned via usps and be insured. I skipped the insured part for a book, but was willing to pay both ways on the shipping via media mail. Linda Chrisner Sales --220 and growing-- Is that Lasagna that I see on your plate????

What eBay will and will not back a seller on

I know that the seller protection is supposed to have increased since the dis-allowing of sellers to leave a negative, but I'm curious about a certain situation. ok, here goes. Buyer commits to an item in my store. 5 days later emails me this: "what is your mailing address?" I responded explaining that I assume that they needed my address because they wanted to send a payment through the mail but unfortunately we only take paypal blah blah blah (but nice of course) Nothing else from the buyer, so on day 9 I file the UPI They respond within an hour telling me that I would have already had my money if I had just given them my mailing address. This buyer has feedback under 30 and has left two negatives for sellers, both involving money order issues. At this point, things could still turn out good, but I'm just bracing myself for the worst. Have any of you had experiences with something similar? IF they did leave a neg because I refused to accept a MO, would that be grounds for feedback removal? This is a new first for me. I sold an item recently that is made of 97% cotton, 3% lycra. What to sell on eBay if shipping charges/costs aren't a factor?

Just wondering if anyone has ideas on what you could sell if shipping didn't cost you anything? Embedding video in your auction?

Has anyone tried that? Results? Comments? Seems it might result in improved sales if well done. Like if you sell shoes, you could put a video in about selecting the proper size or how to measure your dumb kids feet or whatever. I read just this morning on a blog that ebay had changed the rules for the third time, now they want you to embed the video in the auction, while before they required you host it a You Tube or anothe provider they approve of. So check the rules if you give it a try, it seems ebay has issues in flux on this one. Dont you just love You Tube? I can waste hours there. I suppose its a personality thing, some people watch TV, others want to make the tv show. With You Tube, now you can! Ant thats pretty cool if, like me, you can remember when TV was black and white and had about 6 channels. In other words, if you are so old you are at risk of becoming a tourist attraction. I digress. Another symptom of advancing age. Dennis, the artist formerly known as dht56 Selling vintage postcards, supplies, and even a book about selling vintage postcards.

Just wondering if you heard the new 2009 ebay rule .. No longer will anyone be able to sell knives or swords or any unpadded weapons on ebay . Because I am looking to keep selling my wooden and plastic training weapons someplace. I started my store have really good sales and now this . Yet tons of others are selling worse. I heard ebay is crap on alot of blogs as of the last week or two I am agreeing. Kicked out??? How do I build a business when suspended??

Just got a nice littel email from eBay this morning telling me my sellers priviledges have been suspended and all of my listings have been yanked. No reason why, no particular incident, no issues they bring up. I guess my name got randomly picked from the "suspended with no reason" hat today... No warning, no "hey shape up or you will be suspended" emails. Al of my star ratings are above the required 4.3 even after fighting with some stupid French woman over a bra.... I do good business, communicate and treat my customers well.(unless they are trying to blackmail me with neg fb or claims, etc.) I have had enough with eBay and it's policies and the CRAZY fees they charge. I have officially moved my business to WEBSTORE.COM They do not charge crazy fees, no listing fees, you can use google checkout and paypal, and process the payments yourself if you have the ability. The listing format is easy to set up and I am quite pleased with the way the site works. When you sign up, tell them DRDUCTTAPE sent you in the referral box. My aim is to get as many of my fellow sellers to head over to this site and leave eBay in the dust. This is a FREE MARKET ECONOMY and we have the right to take our business wherever we want. I feel so free now that I am out of eBay!! I encourage you to do the same, make the move, stick it to "the man". Ebay, you can take your fees, policies and stars and stick em.... you know where.... I just finished a auction for a crock pot. The winner emailed me (not though ebay but just from her email to mine) and asked if she could only receive the lid. She said her pot worked fine but she just needed a new lid. I asked her to email me that question though ebay so it could be documented. If I mail this lid out and not the whole item that she bought could I be liable for a chargeback and negative feedback? If the buyer agreed to only accept part of the auction and asked though ebay mail would it be ok? Its not a huge amount of money we are talking about but I dont want to get screwed.

Your advice how to handle this ....

Hi Friends Been awhile since I been here and missed you guys and gals. I sold a consignment doll to a lady in France. Sadly, a $300 doll sold for $20. Thats not the issue. The doll was a Mother aprox 19" and a baby aprox 4". They were seperately wrapped in tissue paper then seperately put inside a plastic bag. I used plastic shopping bags fluffed up in place of noodles to both take up space in the box and protect the dolls. I made sure I used enough fluffed bags compressed to ensure the safety of the dolls. I double boxed and reinforced the corners for strength. I received an email from the customer saying the baby's hand was broken when she opened the package. Nothing else was broken on either doll. She emailed me pictures of the baby and the broken hand. I have my original pictures of the baby and the hand is not damaged. She insists on me sending a rattle that is made of sterling silver like the original and she wants compensation for the broken hand. Then she says the doll was purchased as a gift for her mother who knows this doll well. She will be disappointed if the rattle is not included or the correct one. I guess I am now a full fledged ebayer experiencing this kind of situation. I called the USPS to find out about International Claims. hehehe their computer is down. Go figure! So tell me, what is the best way to handle this situation? Who handles the claim? What is reasonable to satisfy here? And please assume whatever questions Im not asking so you can address them. Maybe this info matter and maybe it doesnt. The doll sold for $20 and the shipping was aprox $35. My listing states the buyer pays to ship the items back. Do I have a leg to stand on or do I take a hit here? My consignment income was $6. I cant afford to take the entire hit here. Thanx All Klyde

eBay Tax Help in NY

I am looking for an accountant with eBay experience in the New York City Area to help me out with my taxes. I run a small home-based eBay business. If anybody has any referrals or knows of a place or better discussion board to post this question to, please let me know. Thank you, JP

Question about shipping

Well, here's a new one for me. Sold an item within the US only. Pay Pal accepts payment from someone from Bulgaria (which is on the list to avoid re: international fraud by the way). Item is being shipped to someone in the US although the address is flagged by the Post Office site as being different. I now must contact the buyer in Bulgaria to confirm address. Not having a good feeling about this one. Recently had a Lithuania transaction which also went bad and may have resulted in my lowered search standings. Has this happened to anyone else out there? Tomorrow I call Pay Pal to ask why they accepted payment from someone out of this country. Is Pay Pal not looking out for us sellers?

Need a little advice.

I have been an ebay member for awhile and have sold a few things here and there. Now i really want to get serious and maybe try and do this as a supplement to my income. When i say serious, i mean i have actually went and gotten a business certificate and i have a tax id and the whole thing. Now before i had a dropshipper who wasnt very trustful and that was rough because i had to refund a lot of money and that is partly why i gave up. I decided to spend some money and purchased World Wide Brands supplier list. I now have a couple of jewelry suppliers who i trust because I purchased some things and they were as described and they shipped the day after payment which is a good thing. So now i have things in place in terms of what to sell but now i need help in how to sell. This is gemstone jewelry which I love. I have been reading so much about starting your items at 99 cents. Does anybody have an opinion on this? It seems like a huge risk to take if the supplier is charging me say 70 dollars for the ring and i start it at 99 cents. Who's to say i will make the money to cover at least the cost? Or should i just start it at 70 dollars? Also when should you think of opening a store? I only have one thing up right now and its just costume jewelry but wanted to get my feet wet so put something up cheap. Sorry thread is so long but i would really appreciate any advice you could give.

Blackthorne Developer working on new project.

Slocum is launching SixBit Software, which will help small online sellers list on eBay, Amazon.com and other online marketplaces. Small sellers need a simple, easy-to-use and full-featured listing tool - one that provides excellent support, he said. Slocum had created the Blackthorne listing tool for eBay sellers in 1998. eBay acquired the business the following year, and Slocum and his staff became employees of eBay. In November 2008, eBay announced it was bringing the Blackthorne unit in-house to San Jose and laid off Slocum and some of his colleagues. Take that eBay! Good luck John. Link

I did not realize it was this bad!!!

I was talking to my neighbor today. I mentioned purchasing the item she was looking for on eBay. I got a dirty look and was told that there are only scammers on eBay. I asked why she thought that. Her son has purchased items from eBay and got broken, incorrect, lower quality substitutes, or did not receive the item at all. So I asked a couple of other neighbors what they thought. All have stopped buying on eBay due to at least one of the above mentioned reasons. Out of the 7 neighbors, not one buys here any longer. Wow!!! The perceived safe buying environment on eBay is gone. No wonder eBay is quick to pull a seller. As a former manager I would be loping off heads if the image of my operation I managed was this bad. At one point in my career with a company I took over the customer service department because of an upswing in complaints.....It got fixed. It wasn't pretty people got reassigned, corrective actions for performance were given, a few lost their jobs. But it needed to be done the bad apples were running the show. They had a rude awakening when I took over the show. I had to look out for the operation as a whole. There were other workers that had nothing to do with the problem that depended on their jobs. I had a responsibility to them to keep them and myself employed. Due to some new policies some of them suffered as well. But I do not regret my decision to fix the problem. I believe eBay was slow to react to the cancer and is acting in the best interest of the buyers. I would. The law of the bad apple. One bad apple spoils the bunch. The reality is this venue needs to clean house. Mediocrity is unacceptable. Yes at some point the I may be the lowest performing seller on eBay but It will not be due to my actions or inaction to a customer. -Jeff

Almost no sales on eBay What A Great OPPORTUNITY

Wow! I can hardly believe my good fortune. Since i have almost no sales on eBay now is the time for me to add product without the inconvenience of always shipping items. I want to list 140 more items to reach a total of 500. Since i only use store listings and 30 day fixed with auto relist, then I can just set back and wait for sales. Since I have few sales now, think of all the time I will be saving. The only problem is that they may forget who I am at the post office.

Should I sell to a buyer that leaves LOTS of negatives?

Hi everyone! I am just looking for a few opinions on this. I have a potential buyer that wants to place an order with me. I have yet to respond to her, as I checked her feedback and she gives a lot of negatives. Out of the last 200 feedbacks she left, 48 of them were negatives. In a few cases cases she was too impatient to wait for her orders to arrive from China/Japan and left 32 negatives for one seller after just 2 weeks of waiting. A few other negatives were because the item was broken(these were $1-$2 items), but in both cases the seller stated they sent a replacement AND gave a refund, but she still left negatives. All of the sellers had excellent feedback, until she came along, so it is clear to me that the buyer is the problem. I am not sure I want to risk my feedback as I have already gotten 1 negative from a buyer that was totally unfair. I am wondering, Do I have to sell to her? Can I just add her to my blocked bidder list and hope she doesn't have another id to purchase with? Should I send her a message letting her know I will not sell to her, and if so, what do you say? What would you do? Any thoughts on this would be helpful! Thanks!

Thinking of going from hobby to bonafide

Hi! I've been selling off and on for about 3 or 4 years on ebay and am considering going further with it. Maybe even opening my own ebay "store", maybe my own website (?) even. My main concern is that I don't know much about operating a true business. Such as: do I need any kind of license? What about sales tax? How do I keep accurate records for my taxes? -That kind of stuff. I'm also considering selling some of my products from my home, so for that I'm sure I'd need a license. I would love any advice anyone would like to offer! I'm new to this board but I will comb through and see what wisdom I can uncover! Thanks!

Problem with buyer....any suggestions?

I have a buyer who bought a pair of kids Ugg boots from me. They were a size M and I listed them as a L by mistake. I stated that they were in excellent USED condition...which they were. She emailed me complaining that there was a scuff on the front of the Ugg Boot. Yes there is and it shows in the picture...other then that they are perfect. Hence the USED condition. Since I made the mistake of listing them as a Large I told her to feel free to return them to me. This was 8 days ago and I never heard back from her. Now today I get an e-mail telling me she wants a partial refund on the boots. So I guess the obviously fit. I do not want to give her a refund because she got them at a very cheap price as is. Since she got them on the 5th of Feb and it is now the 18th I am sure her child has worn them since she never responded to my offer of a return. If she returns them now they might not be in the condition I sent them out in and I would not be able to resell them. I do not want her ruining my feedback.. and Ebay always seems to side with the buyer from what I have heard. I feel like she is taking me for a ride because if the boots did not fit and she did not want them she would have taken me up on the returning of the right away and would have done so. What should I do??? Thanks

Taken off the internet. May as well know the "truth" (which makes sense considering the present state of ebay) By August there will be no pretense and the intentions of the new and improved eBay will be clear. The following is only a partial list of the rules that will be imposed. It comes from a memo that circulated within my corner of the managerial department the week before Chicago. I cannot be too specific about certain items and I cannot reveal details of the latest additions without endangering my anonymity. 1. Neutrals will be converted to negatives complete with red icons and reduced feedback scores. Afterward neutrals will not be offered as a choice of feedback. 2. The entire process of feedback will be automated. Buyers and sellers will chose standard feedback from a list. For sellers this operation will be performed automatically upon the buyer winning. For buyers there will be an extra free line with which to add a few comments about the seller without restriction to content. Replies will not be allowed. 3. The implementation of a stricter rules regarding shipping. From the boxes, packing, labels and tapes to where you can buy postage. Orders have been placed for prototypes of "eBay" boxes. UPS and FedEx will be instructed not to accept "eBay" merchandise if it's not inside "eBay" boxing. They will know, of course, because when sellers buy the "eBay" postage from the "eBay" source, a detailed list of contents with item numbers will be available to the shippers upon scanning a bar code. As for those who continue to use USPS, another level of quality control will be implemented - buyers will be asked, upon confirmation of delivery, if the seller used "eBay" standard shipping items. Naturally, no verification of the buyer's truthfulness will be attempted, and continued 'infractions' will result in suspension. eBay will have other ways to check if a seller is not using the "eBay" equipment - as they will be required to buy at cost the supplies immediately after items are listed. (This is such a large scale operation behind the scenes that I feel comfortable sharing as much of it as I know.) 4. Sales taxes will be included automatically; shipping cost and sales taxes will be used to determined FVF. 5. Item descriptions will be "standardized" with templates which include the posting of a new, universal return policy. Only yearly subscribers to the retail-outlet venue can opt out of these universal return policies but even they cannot alter the template structures being devised. 6. Strikes against buyers will be eliminated as the whole concept of a buyer and bidding will be altered. FVF will be calculated when payment is submitted. 7. Time to Close will be eliminated entirely. Best Match will be the non-alterable default. Best Match is a system that caters to the needs of shoppers not bidders. 8. Placement within Best Match will be determined by several factors, the most important of which will be the extra display features added onto the listing. 9. DSRs can be removed by retailers and powersellers who pay a certain yearly fee. 10. The end play itself which consists of four phases: a) the main focus shifts to retail sellers whose fees are on a per listing basis b) stores will be replaced by a classified section, fees will be based on yearly subscriptions and FVFs c) occasional auctions will be conducted for unique items (celebrity auctions, items that have been featured on the news, etc.) d) total elimination of auctions for regular sellers.

My secret to boosting sales

This works every time I try it. After about 5 days of dismal sales, spending way to much time on some of the boards reading all the negativity about eBay and the economy in general, and fighting to get Google Base to work, my head was about ready to explode. So, I turned of the computer, fired up a fine Dominican hand-rolled, and went for a long walk. I talked to some neighbors, played fetch with a neighborhood dog and topped it off with a nice cold micro-brew. When I got back to the office about 2 hours later, I had 3 orders waiting for me. I don't know why, but this works every time. Give it a try; at least the exercise will do you some good. TokenCreekSales

My sales have went to zero! Is it related to Best Match update?

I was averaging 3 - 8 sales per day and then on Mar. 17 my sales went completely to 0. Coincidentally I found an article describing changes in Best Match that also occurred on Mar. 17. Has this happened to anyone else? I just made Power Seller status earlier this month, my feedback rating is 100%, and my DSRs until today were all 4.9, one DSR just went to 4.8 today. When I search for my items some come up first in the list and some are 4 or 5 down which is how it has been. Has anyone else had a sudden drop off in sales? This usually happens to me about every 4 - 6 weeks where the sales drop off for a few days and then they come back. Is this normal?

I didn't get adcommerce coupons, did you?

I saw this item in auctionbytes today: "eBay sent $20 coupon to sellers to spend on its pay-per-click ad network. The eBay AdCommerce program allows eBay sellers to promote their listings through ads that display in the sponsored results section of search results. Sellers must redeem the AdCommerce coupons by March 31st and are good for campaigns that run in the month of April." But there aren't any messages about this in my ebay, my messages, or in my email. I couldn't find anything in the ebay announcements either. Wondering if a seller has to have a certain status to receive this coupon, anyone know? Ebay Discrimination

As an Authorized NJOY Electronic Smoking Alternative Device Dealer, I searched and found many auctions for similar devices on Ebay, so I listed mine. Ebay immediately pulled my auctions for these products claiming they were "smokeless tobacco". I proved to them these were not the same thing. So I relisted my products, had many bids, business was going good, then suddenly Ebay pulled my auctions again claiming "they were not approved by FDA" Resorting to another aspect, I designed an Informational Pamphlet regarding this type device along with my personal contact information with the FDA with their response being "these devices have not been completely researched therefore they are not approved or disapproved". I relisted just the flavor cartridges, and Ebay not only pulled those auctions but the ones for my information pamphlets and blocked me from listing anything for "one day". However, since this began, there have been NUMEROUS auctions for many types of this product, not just NJOY, and these auctions were never pulled. I saved copies of all listings for weeks now. So does anyone agree this is a case of Discrimination?? I've asked the Ebay CEO to contact me however I doubt the request got to him. I believe its one employee trying to play games with me and thinking they are powerful. I will have their job and plan to file major lawsuit against Ebay for discrimination. I've lost so many sales over this. ANYONE who can help me please contact me at: Virtual.Smoke@live.com Thanks so much for all your help!!!

Alternative to drop shipping

Instead of using a drop shipper and being subject to all the issues another option is to use an online fulfilment provider. They will receive your product, store and ship your customer orders. Yes you have to pay storage and handling but the stock is yours AND if you locate your stock correctly you can serve more markets with shorter delivery times and lower delivery costs. Ideally they should have a web based service so you can see everything in real time 24/7 via the web. Pik Pak

I am trying to find a good marketing site

Hi, everyone. I am taking another stab at ebay. I sold hard for a year or so and found it overwhelming. My frustration comes from the time it takes to generate the listing and researching the item I'm selling. I am currently using Auctiva to list. I would like to know if there is a decent marketing tool that is easy to use and strait to the point, that is, searching keywords, visitors and the info related to them. What categories are they searching, how did they get there, etc. I was looking at Sellathon's ViewTracker and signed up for the 30 day free trial, then started reading the post at Sellathon and discovered that most of, if not all, currently subscribed were unhappy due to the new version they had just launched. It seems that Version 3. is a lot more popular than Version 4. and that V4 is so much more limited than what V3. is. I am looking at terapeak, and wanted some input and thoughts about their service, or about any other service out there. Also Auctiva says it is free to list using their site, but I found out that they are charging insurance on every item that I sell. Some of these are not worth putting insurance on, like a .99 item. When I tried to turn off the insurance for items a notice comes up and discourages this because Auctiva has to have some way to make money and keep the site free. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

$100 contest to the winner but what should I have them do?

Hi All, I have a blog on blogger I use to try and direct people to my Ebay store. It does help somewhat but to attract even more attention, I'm going to have a contest offering either $50 or $100 prize into their Paypal account. Okay, I know what the prize is going to be but what should I have people do to win it? This is all so new to me so I'm hoping some of you may of had some experience along these lines. Lets say they need to follow me on my blog, twitter, and comment on my blog or whatever. How do I figure out the winner? I figure I should run it for 30 days? I also posted this on another board but haven't really got alot of replies with ideas yet. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. pegs_family_closet_closeouts pegs_family_closet_closeouts

Trying to setup a store - frustrated!

I just opened a store and am trying to set up my "custom pages". It says that I can customize them without knowing HTML by using eBay's text editor but I don't see any options for doing that. I've searched all the help topics, etc. and the only thing I can find that mentions a text editor is on the "sell your item" page. It doesn't make any sense to me. I'm frustrated that I haven't even been able to get the store designed yet, let alone list anything. Can someone tell me how to do this???

Wondering about opening a store

I have been selling on Ebay for years, here and there. We recently walked upon some great inventory so now I am interested in a store but I don't know the first thing about it really. I was wondering if someone could tell me the greatest advantages of having a store and how easy or hard it is to start up - and can I keep my same name or do I have to make up a new one? Do you all pay taxes on what you sell through your store? I know this is a very broad questions, but any suggestions or help you can give me would be great! Thanks in advance!!!!

Detailed DSR reports available in Seller Dashboard

Seller Dashboard has an upgrade that allows you to create detailed reports on your DSRs. The link is in the title area of the Detailed seller ratings table within the Seller Dashboard. You will need at least 10 ratings within your criteria to produce a report. Now that it is easier to find out exactly who left DSRs, I certainly hope sellers use it to fix their mistakes rather than slamming buyers who gave them the ratings. Paul

Wholesale pricing.

Hey guys. So. I just got a wholesale pricing list from one of my distributors, and I need help deciphering the list. The objects in question are supplements. Item/ Size/ Case/ WHSL/ Price/ Case Discount 2.5%/ Retail/ ###/ 1.0lb/.....6 / $70.96../$53.22/ $51.89......................./ 94.99 now. is this the cost per case? (ie: 6 units for $53.22) or is it the cost per unit (ie: $53.22 for one tub?) This almost makes no sense if its 53.22 for one tub. A single unit only usually sells for 75 in most stores.so after shipping and such, I would barely just break even. Keep in mind this is all tax exempt, I am a business with a tax id. If this is per unit, i will for one case end up spending over $300 to make 330 after I sell off all my product, factor in tax and shipping. This is a major distributor, i wouldnt think profit margins would be so low. Thanks.

Good News about Research! (Keep on Keepin' on!)

A lot of the regulars here continually stress how important research is when it comes to your business. Researching what to sell. Researching where to get it. Researching price points, shipping services, your customers, the competition ("Comp Shopping"), listing formats, trends, return policies, marketing, and on and on. And doing it continuously. My job as friends Director (Sales Director) is basically to move inventory. Part of that job is marketing. When we opened our eBay store last December, I got serious about Google. I researched their advertising options, their Product Finder, GoogleBase, and how their search engine worked. I knew that we wouldn't be able to compete right now with the big toy sellers. So focusing on generic things such as 'Stuffed Animals' would not be the best strategy. Rather we focused on individual products, and niche markets within the plush toy category. We started using what I had learned immediately. After a couple of months, we're seeing results. Out of curiosity today, I did a few searches: Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2 Screenshot 3 I clicked on 'Shopping Results' on the last one and got: Screenshot 4 It was nice to see our store come up near the top. My father (The Boss, Owner of the business) was encouraged to see this as well. I was particularly pleased to see extra details come up for our store when buyers click to see more shopping results, as opposed to other sellers where the details did not show. Yes, I'm gloating a bit here. But I wanted to share this to show folks that all this research does pay off. We're starting to see more sales from Google. We've been able to better focus our product line towards our great buyers needs. We're able to write our policies focusing on our great buyers. We're able to price our items competitively, while offering low cost shipping. (Thanks again to posters here for pointing out our shipping discrepancy a couple months ago). All of that through continuous research. It's a lot of work. But it leads to better sales down the road. It takes time to build a business. We're still building ours. You may not see the results you want right away. But if you keep plugging away at it, in time you'll start to see the results. Some days it can be discouraging. Especially if you don't see any sales. But keep at it! We'll get there. My work with Google hasn't stopped. It's only started. My thanks to the regulars who post here. This board was one of the first places I looked at when we got serious about being in business on eBay. The knowledge you share is invaluable. -- friends Director,

ebay store rules and regulation

sure open a ebay store and have all your seller's rights taken away. Ebay has selective enforcement for there rules and regulations. If you are a seller you are expected to work for ebay your are expected to surf the listing for violations and report them and not get paid. Them if you complain one to many times ebay will restrict you from listing for how many days ebay fells like restricting you. Who is ebay hurting??? My guess is ebay. We expect to get paid for surfing and reporting those violators. Then ebay take away your right to leave negative feedbacks and if ebay fells like it ebay will remove your unpaid strike if the buyer complains.. open a ebay store, it's just like working for big brother.

Ebay Powerseller question

Hello all, my name is David and I'm a jeweler dealing in new and 2nd hand goods. I sell new engagement rings and wedding bands as well as dealing with secondary market goods. I have a question about Ebay's Powersellers. I saw a couple jewelers who are Powersellers, however when I looked at their stores, I could hardly find anything at all that was sold (can we see items that have been sold??) or even bid on. the ones that were bid on looked like they were nowhere close to what any dealer would need, you know, like $57 for a 1 carat diamond. I do like how one jeweler who was a Powerseller had his store centered around "Buy Now or Best Offer". But I saw no offers on any items, yet he was a Powerseller! Am I not looking closely enough? Is there information I can't see? I am encouraged to start my own store but I need to learn how best to suit it to sales. thanks for listening and I appreciate any feedback. David

Hi, Today has been a very bad day! Everything I put my hand in falls apart, my marriage, my schooling, my family, and anything else you could think of. As sad as it sounds the only thing I have left is ebay, ebay is the only thing i can try to find joy in. i am just still starting and getting things about my ebay business worked out but i strive to sell as much as i can , get as much positive feedback as i can and i really want to be a power seller, so anyway... There are so many bad story's you hear about from other sellers That I thought it was time to start a post of all the good story's and things that happen on ebay. Maybe this is to just make me feel better about my own stuff, maybe this will show that there is still good out there, i don't know , but please if anyone has any good/happy storys about ebay please post them so everyone can share the joy as well....Thanks all and have a good day! First Negative Feedback @ 219

So a buyer left me negative feedback instead of asking me for a refund on a recent transaction. I sold the buyer (3) pairs of BDU pants and there was a size problem. It was my fault but the buyer instead of contacting me to resolve the matter, left me my very first negative feedback then sent me a message saying he didnt want to send the pants back to me and that the buyer was not gonna leave positive feedback. I just sent the buyer a message asking if they wanted a full refund without sending the items back. Now its just a waiting game for the response. So my question is, does eBay still allow buyers to change their feedback? I am hoping to resolve the matter and maybe get the negative off. Any advice would be certainly appreciated! Thanks

Seller's software solutions - what do you use?

So, I've been using Auctiva, which works... kinda. It drives me crazy to need to get something accomplished but then the sight is down, or their server is being fritzy, etc, etc... plus the whole dynamic of their website is super clunky (tell me I'm not the only one you thinks this!) and I know that once I get my eBay business back going at the speed I need to be Auctiva will drive me batty. So what solutions are you using? In 2002/2003 I had an offline software that I LOVED, super easy to use, did a lot of automated things, but also very flexible to suit my own personal needs. It was also free (big bonus!). I don't mind paying a reasonable price for something, but I hate shelling out money for something that ends up not being workable for me, kwim? Thanks in advance for any input! =) ~Kristi

looking for your opinions

I've had 2 issues come up this week that I'm not quite sure about the best way to handle them. Both are about customs and returns. #1. I received a package returned to me unopened. It was a pair of stockings that I sold for $4, shipping charges (customer paid) were $4.60 and was shipped to France. It came back with a sticker marking "non reclame" which I assume means that no one ever claimed it at the customs office. I would be happy to return the customers money for the stockings, but am I obliged to return the shipping costs as well? #2 I got an email from a customer who purchased a $50 dress. (She is overseas somewhere but I just don't remember what country) The email tells me that she called her customs office and they informed her that they have returned the dress to me because she didn't pick it up. She said that they never notified her that it was there for pickup. I haven't gotten the dress back yet, but not really sure how to handle this one either. I'd gladly re-send it to her once it arrives, but should I pay for the cost of re-shipping? Thanks - Shelley Attitude Apparel because you are what you wear!

Ebay limits store sales numbers????

I have a few store categories with over 1000 items listed in them.I have never been able to put them on sale in my store. When I tried to look further into why I could not,it seems Ebay wanted me to sign up for a program that would cost me an additional $600.00 a year in straight fees, just to be able to put these larger categories on sale?Has anyone found a solution to this problem or why they have even created this problem?Any helpful info would be appreciated. DSR's drop when discounting items

Hi, When the economy went south recently, I decided that it would be a good idea to offer several select items at one penny starting and free shipping. My thinking was that by doing so I could attract a lot of attention and more bids on my other items. Did not happen. What did happen was that even though I was selling often at a loss and giving free shipping my DSR's dropped. It would seem that those who are unwilling to give money are also unwilling to be nice or give good reviews. Do not shed any tears for me, my DSR's were high and are recovering now that I am selling only to better clientile. My thought and worry and warning is for that seller who has suffered low DSR,s and might thing it would help to sell cheap. DON'T DON'T DON'T. Well ok I sell lingerie. Maybe with other items it might be different. I would like to have other thoughts and experiences on this. Is it consistent when you sell low you get low responses? Regards John E.

What do you do with all of those auction item watchers?

If you add to your description within 12 hours of the item's ending - don't all of the watchers get an email that says "The item you are watching has been revised"? Just wondering ... If this is the case, wouldn't I be able to add a picture of the item with a caption "Ready to ship" - the picture would be of a box on table, with the item 1/2 way out of the box, padding all around it with packaging peanuts flowing out of the box and spilling off the table. And - when I post this new picture on my listing, everyone on my watch list will get an email ... Is this correct? Paul
