WWYD Non paying buyer

I cant figure out what to do. I have a non paying buyer and the 7 days has elapsed so I can open a non-paying buyer dispute EXCEPT that this buyer has bought from me 1x in the past and paid right away. I dont want to tick her off but she is not responding to my emails. I told her would work with her if she needs more time etc and she is bidding on other items so its not like she is MIA from her computer. Do I open the non-paying issue or continue to wait with no response? She won and paid for other items the same day that my item closed but nothing since..so what would you do?

Once again, getting started

1st Question: how long do previous posts remain on these boards? How do I find my previous posts? 2nd Question: is it true these boards will be eliminated Oct 31? That seems incredibly short sighted, if true. 3rd Q: I thought I had created listing (but were not run yet) as well as shipping info, can't seem to find them now. Although for many the ebay layout/system seems logical, to a newbie the complexity is challenging. I need help! Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I truly appreciate it. Bruce P.S. what do i put in the "tags" at the bottom, keywords?

20% of my auctions are non-paying bidders with High Feedback Ratings

I'm surprised to find this but about 20% of my auctions result in a non-paying winning bidder. Out of those, 90% of them have a significant (50 or better) 100% positive feedback rating. I'd expect this from zero feedback bidders but I guess this is the Feedback policy in action here. Anyone else having problems with non paying bidders that have significant positive feedback?

Canceling Zero Feeback bidders

In the past, I have canceled bids on my auctions from zero feedback bidders with an apology asking that they contact me first if they want to bid but so far none ever have. What do you guys think, is it appropriate (if you suspect a deadbeat zero feedback bidder) to cancel a bid like that?

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day!!

Selling on eBay is not easy - sometimes as a seller you feel that you are giving your items away just to make a sale.. I decided to take a different attitude with selling..Remember the old saying.. "Quality is better then Quantity" - I no longer hope for daily sales, but rather grow a repeat buyer base.. In order to have your store stay active - you need buyers!! - Getting a quick sale isn't the answer.. you need a constant flow of buyers who are pleased with your product and build a trust with you as a seller for continued sales. Most of my buyers are "Repeat Buyers" they come back to my store for sales and knowing I will give them excellent customer service. You can't make all buyers happy, some will love your product and some buyers will find something wrong just to complain but that's the name of the game in the retail world. That's why you always see people at the courtesy counter at retail stores, there will always be a customer who is not satisfied. As a seller you need good marketing, by offering incentive rewards to new and repeat buyers.., giving them an extra gift in their order, just to say thank you! Or just including a nice Thank you card in their order is a nice gesture. I decided to offer a cash back program to all my buyers..It's a buyer reward program that they join to get cash back on all their purchases from my store. It's a great incentive for your buyers and with good customer service, you will have repeat buyers. I rather have 2 sales with pleased buyers, then 2,000 sales with lots of negative feedback. Rome wasn't built in a day, so I rather build my business slowly with a happy repeat buyer base.

Buyer states that item was broken

Buyer purchased item 270451834765 from me and I sent it to her Priority Mail. A week after she receives it she emailed me to tell me that the modem will not power on, and she's tried everything. I sent this in working condition to her, so I'm suspicious. I told her I would refund her money, and to mail it back to me. I think she has had buyer's remorse but hopefully she didn't break the modem in order to return it. Which leads me to rethink how I am handling returns. I accept returns on new and used merchandise for 30 days. Its pointless not to, the buyer can always dispute the purchase and I'd end up losing anyways, and so far out of 100 items sold I have not yet had a return until now. I have not yet received the modem back from her. In my listing I state that I will pay the shipping on the returned merchandise. I'm also rethinking that policy but I want to instill confidence and peace of mind to my buyers so that they know they can return merchandise without a hassle. If the modem is in fact broken then I'm out a hundred bucks. Did I handle this situation appropriately, and would you do anything different?

Is it a good idea to have a business phone?

Is it a good idea to have a business phone? I don't have one right now. I coduct all business via email. But I am always interested in improving-growing larger and more profitable-more professional and successful. Some websites encourage 800 numbers to small business to make them look BIGGER and more professional...... That sounds good...... But do I have the time to sit by a phone? What if the buyers who are sending me gifts want to just talk? On the other hand-maybe a phone would do something for me that email cannot? Anyone have a ProStore with Ebay? How's it going?

Hi, I opened a ProStore 8 months ago. Anyone else have one. Are you getting sales? Do you put it out on search engines? Are you having any issues with your store? My problems are few sales, constant doubling of store listings from eBay renewals, category building not working smooth. For example under toys I have about 6 categories, but when customers click on toys the toy pages run on and on rather then showing on category at a time. And I always have to check my store to remove all the doubled listings from eBay listings that are renewed. Any suggestions. Ebay says they have no fix for the problem. I also have an eBay store that I opened 8 months ago. I'm still learning the ropes. I think I'm going to move my store to another server.

Someone stole my text and I reported it, nothing done about it.,??

I have had an ongoing item, for sale, for two years now. It's on during the Fall and off the rest of the year. Recently A Power Seller stole my text, along with my ORIGINAL comments. I reported it, and got the general response, that it had been taken care of. I have been checking the other seller's description for days and no change. My exact text and wording is still on their page. Finally, I revised my item description so as not to sound like a copycat. I spent a lot of time typing the description in and adding my own thoughts. It really irks me that this other seller copied and pasted my text, and nothing has been done about it. My feedback is 209, not a Power Seller by any means, 100% Positive, Member since 2001. OH! Did I mention, the copier just happens to be a Power Seller, who just received a Top-Seller Ribbon so she/he's postings are brought to the forefront in a search? What is that all about? Also, I would really like to complain about not being able to offer insurance....What is going on here?!

Exceeding Credit Limit when listing item?

Ok, now I know that I have a "credit limit" with eBay but I am only about 25% of that as of today and I cannot list any items. When I try, it sends me back to the sign in screen and says that I have exceeded my credit limit. Of course I am "on hold" now waiting for someone with Live Chat but is anyone else having this problem? I am thinking maybe its because my account gets billed today? I am stumped, if they want me to pay this piddly little balance I will but I dont understand why I should have to if I havent been billed for it yet.

I just signed up for shipsurance......

So far I am impressed-ALREADY!! My plan is for $15 monthly. This should cover me up to 1500. shipped monthly....... ALL my shipments, business, personal, eBay, and elsewhere........ They have a system that integrates my eBay sales, and then I would manually add anything that I shipped from NON ebay/NON paypal..... (IE 1st class international shipments that I purchase at the post office). They do integrate with stamps.com if you use that.....I don't b/c of the cost. I'll need to figure this new reporting system out-but my insurance Ariel, was SO nice, and SO easily accessible to my via his phone # and ext. that I feel pretty comfortable....... So Now, all my shipments will be covered! I'll spend tomorrow batch editing. Most of my buyers will be saving $$$-from $2.25 down to 50 cents!!!!! And now I can feel comfortable shipping expensive items 1st class international-this will save big time $$$ and encourage more buying I'm sure!!!Kat katrina9799s household variety shop Vintage puppets are cool!

Accounting Help Please!!

Hi I've been in business for almost two years and since I read information on Ebay main Street about taxes, the IRS and how Paypal is going to start reporting the payments you receive through Paypal to the IRS in 2012, I'm afraid of losing my business because I thought my business was small. It's not zoned as an official business in my town or anything. This was just supposed to be a part-time thing for me to earn some cash. Now, I use a dropshipper and I have NO idea how to even start to do daily accounting, reconciling between ebay's sales, subtracting shipping, ebay fees, paypal fees, and the total amount charged from the dropshipper, not to mention that sometimes the dropshipper doesn't give my my invoices on the same day so it's almost impossible to do accounting that matches up day by day and I have NO idea where to start or how to do this all by myself... All these new government rules are starting to really scare me and I HAVE to start doing accounting... Anyone having the same issues, dealing with the dropshipper, ebay's monthly invoices for fees, and such that makes it a challenge to reconcile your books?

Keeping tabs on item cost/actual profit? Auction software, etc?

Is there an auction management software tool out there that lets me add a field for item cost when I list something, and lets me view that combined monthly figure and/or show me my actual profit? The only way I know how to do this right now would be to make up an excel sheet with item number and cost, which could be laborious to use. Finding sources - where to start???

I have been buying and selling on ebay for years. I have recently decided to become a more serious seller. I hope to create an actual business within the next couple of months. I would like to find a product source (other than my garage), for the items I sell. I am not opposed to garage sales, etc for start up, but where can I go after that? How hard is it to get product from wholesale distributers? Where can I find a reputable one? What's a minimum order? Or is creating your own product more profitable? Thanks!

SHOCK !!! The ugly DSR truth

The facts about DSR's is getting ugly. Almost impossible to keep a 4.9 and it is not possible to not get more than 0.5% ones or twos. People leave you low feedback on purpose just to jam you. Really !!! All of you in fairyland that drink the ebay koolaid are crazy. It happens. Since it was announced that the ebay best sellers can not get more than 0.5% 1 or 2 ratings I have received seven (7) ratings of 1 or 2. 100% of my items have FREE SHIPPING, 100% were shipped within 24 hours, !00% were exact as described, 100% received an email after purchase, a personal email thanking them when the item was shipped, and if it didn't arrive within a week a follow up email. In the past year I have shipped 100% of my items within 24 hours and have shipped FREE. Those DSR's are only 4.85 and 4.86. Am I leaving ebay. No. But these are the cold facts. Just wanted to share my story. Thanks.

RSS Feeds - My new Variations listings are not included?

Since many of my products fit in the Variation listing rules, I changed just under 100 listings and now have them in three listings - BUT - these new listings are not included in the RSS feeds, therefore I ended up deleting nearly 100 items from being searched for off eBay. Depending on how they were searched for, most of these items came up in the first three or four results - now they are not available (via eBay links). I still have all of the items show up that I have listed off-eBay, but I would really like to know how I can get these listings to show up. One thought I had was to edit the OLD RSS feed with the products on them to point to the correct variation listing on eBay - then uploading to Googlebase. Is this my only alternative? Thank you, Paul

Payment Hold Contested and Won

Had an interesting situation I though I would pass along. Closed an auction yesterday for under $15.00 total. Buyer promptly paid and Paypal sent a note saying Ebay and Paypal were teaming together to make it safer for Buyers and Sellers and would occasionally put holds on itmes that met certain criteria. Being on Ebay for years now, I looked up the critera for "holding payments". I didn't fit even one of the requirements for this to happen. I wasn't new and under 6 months, it wasn't a high-priced item, my DSR's are high, no actions against me, and it wasn't a high-risk catagory. I e-mailed Paypal and asked them for the reason last night and first thing this morning (4am) the decision was reversed. If you have questions my fellow Ebayer's, just ask, you have nothing to lose. As I tell my children, you have to stand up for yourself because nobody else will. Happy Ebaying!

Fee Avoidance the good the bad and the ugly

As a seller on Ebay since the beginning I can tell you I have seen just about every incarnation of the sales model, I have seen ebay go through many changes as well sellers and buyers have changed over the years, however, the one thing that I have never participated in is fee avoidance. Fee avoidance If some of you do not know is the practice of avoiding Ebay fees by offering to do business outside the ebay business model this also includes shifting the cost of the item to the shipping of the item, for instance you would not list a Blue ray DVD player for a buy it now price of $2.00 and the shipping be $275.00 That would be fee avoidance. Yet you still see even accomplished sellers do this, When I see this type of behavior I will not as a buyer purchase anything from that seller. Excessive shipping fees is a way of creating Fee avoidance and should not be tolerated. Most recently I ran across an auction from a big seller and after making a purchase I found that the shipping was ten thousand percent of the selling price. I find that to be Evil, now I do not mind paying an average shipping cost but I refuse to pay any shipping cost that is so large as to shift the cost of the item to shipping for the purpose of evading ebay fees that is just plain wrong. I realize some will certainly view this differently and you are entitled to your opinion, but as far as building an ebay business this is not the way to do it you will sell more if your shipping fees are moderate and fair than if you try to take advantage of a buyer in this way.

He usually buys up whatever stock of Kersa puppets that I have. I'm rambling because that's totally off the current subject...... He sent me an autographed poster addressed to me - katrina9799 - from Billie Hayes. Don't know who she is? Neither did I - until I googled her. She was witchie poo in the 1969 tv series HR pufnstuf and she played Mammy Yokum of the Lil Abner on the silverscreen. I LOVE HR pufnstuf and the Lil Abner characters! Now I will frame and hang that pix on my office wall! Then he sent a photo of a character Sam Beauregarde from Willie Wonka - a great film! Such a NICE person! shipping signature

Don't most shippers have a signature option that a seller could require a buyer to pay for to verify that an item got delivered? Does ebay frown upon that as well? As a seller it seems that would be our only proof that an item got delivered, especially with USPS. Does USPS flat rate have proof of delivery/signature as an added option? FEDEX and UPS would have some sort of record, so it shouldn't be an issue, right?. I'm new to this, so please bear with my goofy questions. How many use that? I guess it would depend on the value of the item, your customer base, past experience, etc. But from some of the horror stories I have heard about buyers false claims, etc, it seems to be one of the few means of defense.

A few months ago I started using firefox in addition to IE. Had no luck looking around the firefox site to find an answer to my question, so maybe someone here can help. Since the very beginning (and I update firefox whenever I get the message that an update is available) many - but not all - of the links on most websites are highlighted in red and very difficult to read. If you don't know what I mean, imagine that someone has taken a red highlighting marker and marked the (Sign out) link at the top of the page. I have tried different browser settings, but to no avail. I would like to get rid of those red highlights, and I would also love to understand why some links have this red highlighting over the blue and some do not. What percentage of product sells on E-Bay

I've been in sales for 25 years, selling software, mortgages, etc. The old adage of 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rings in my mind. That is 1/3 will buy, 1/3 will do nothing and 1/3 will go to a competitor. Has anyone ever worked the percentages on E-Bay?

Some General Questions about Wholesale Companies

Hello Everyone, I have been interested in starting an ebay business, not necessarily a HUGE business, but something that will bring in some extra money every month. I've been selling things that I have and have had some luck, but for the most part, I have broke even. I'm wondering if I should start looking into wholesale items such as designer clothing, purses, and jewelry. I notice that this seems to be selling alot as well as makeup items. My questions are, what are the best companies to buy wholesale from? What is the MOST I should spend on a lot of clothing or jewelry to start off with? With all the fees now being placed on larger items, is it really worth it to do this part-time? I would love some feedback from some of the larger sellers, as well as some part-time sellers. Thanks!

Did I read this correctly?

I wonder if anyone else is bothered by what I think I read. On the new agreement between ebay and sellers, ebay will have the right to debit your paypal account if there is a dispute between a buyer and a seller, or if you give them another way, i.e. credit card, etc., they will debit that while investigating????? Thanks all.Pam B

Ducks in a row...

I have several sources of goods to market and a strong desire to sell on ebay. I am concerned about the following: Shipping: what is the best way to ship? USPS, UPS, etc. what level of service do most customers expect? next day, ground, etc. How important is cost? Ebay pushes "incentivises" "free" shipping from the seller, which means sellers absorb the cost. Anyone know what percent of sellers offer that? I don't plan on profiting from shipping, but why should I eat it? Those that have been doing this for a while have elaborate, sophisticated listings, stores, websites and many features. They have lower costs (powersellers) and a support network. I know, I know that sounds like whiny, crybaby stuff, but they also have automated responses to customers, and so much more. Does a simple, easy-going guy like me have a chance to compete? I can barely figure out how to make a listing. OK, I can do more than that, but still, it is very daunting. I would love to speak to an experienced ebayer, maybe 5 minutes, no more, just to see what the possibilities are (and the risks). As I read more and more about ebay selling I feel overwhelmed. Thanks, Bruce in Nebraska

Insight on Doba

Hi! everyone I recently signed up for a free 14 day trial of Doba through an eBay link. They were listed as one of their trusted and approved resources. I am a bit leery of drop shipping. I don't know if it's intuition on just first time jitters. The idea of paying for an item only after it is sold and leaving the packing and shipping to someone else does sound tempting. However, my concern is are they as good as advertised? Do they really aid in building the business as a strong but silent second party? Looking to someone out there with a little insight. Is Doba friend or foe? Are they snake oil salesmen preying on novice sellers? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

confused about the terms

I am a newbie with ebay. I could use a bit of help with the terms for listing items. I understand the different methods - fixed vs auction ect. What I do not understand is if I can just put inventory in the store say 100 items. Then list say 10 for auction in order to bring folks into the store to buy other stuff the is not actually listed? Or is every thing listed? I am trying to save a few coins. Any help would be great.

Ebay once again socks it to the sellers..

I am getting so darn sick of ebay. The newest (and I just saw it POP up whe I listed something) is with the shipping insurance starting week of Sept. 22nd. WE as sellers now CAN NOT offer insurance as an option. We either have to include it in our listing price (which will then cause the price to go up and then the fee to list the item to go up) or add it to the already high shipping price..oh and I love how they say we can not say in our listing that if insurance is not purchased we can not be help liable for items lost or damaged. WHAT!? Ebay..really. So we can not say this in our listing. WOW! Insane. Just not for the sellers anymore. Just for the money and the buyers cause their is NOOOO seller protection any longer on ebay. First they get rid of Neg. feedbacks that sellers can't leave to buyers that have wronged us and now this. wow. Think I will go to esty or other sites now cause this has been a bit to much to swallow. Ebay.. you SUX and you will see how many people think that and go else where.

Do you need a business license to sell on ebay?

Hi everyone, I have sold some items on ebay, but now i am interested in increasing my income. I am trying to get my ducks in a row. I have a sales tax permit for my state (TEXAS) and I have a DBA; do i need to get a business license? Eventually I would like to open a boutique. I use inkfrog which is pretty good and it has an option for buyitsellit; does anyone know if this is a good way to go to open a store. Any advise? Thanks for your time.

Am I ready for the next level?

Hello all. I have gotten some great advice in the past from the great people here, so I have come back for more. My wife and I have really enjoyed selling on ebay. It is more of a hobby than an income, but we would love to make it an income. We have been interested in going to the next level. Not quite to the point of a store yet, but just buying wholesale bulk and reselling online. The only thing is, how do you know what to buy and sell, and from who? I have done alot of reaserch, and the dropship thing does not appeal to me at all. Buying from wholesalers does, but how do you know who is a true wholesaler, and if your product will fly? Where do you look for a wholesaler? I would appreciate any and all advice from anyone from novices to veterans. Thanks!

Thank you - 1 year in and doing well

I just wanted to let everyone on this discussion board know just how valuable your suggestions are. We've been on eBay now for just a bit over a year. It was hard going at first but your comments really helped me out. I've incorporated many suggestions into our eBay sales process. We've earned our Power Seller status and have just received our 200th feedback. We are a manufacturer so having a retail program was new to us. At first, I had little corporate support since eBay orders are small, but because of your help and suggestions, eBay is now one of our "top customers". I'd like to expand to overseas sales but we ship via UPS which is quite expensive - our products are sizable. I'd like to find more brokers like USBuyer.com or specialty export houses that could save money on overseas shipments. If anyone has ideas on how to ship overseas at reasonable cost, I would love to hear it. Thank you all again for helping me out !

OT: Retirement plans?

Got this today in an email from a local group -- gotta love the attitude! Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting Well, for example, the other day my spouse and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and I said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break? He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a dumb _ _ _. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So my spouse called him a _ _ _ _ head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Just then our bus arrived. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age. -Bob.V.46 Trading Assistant, since 1997!

Slanderous Feedback

I had a buyer leave slanderous feedback stating that one item was not as described, because she wanted me to replace another item she bought, that she said was not the size listed on the tag. She wanted me to replace the "wrong" item before she returned the "wrong" item. When I asked her to return the item before I replaced it, she left negative feedback for the two items she purchased from me although the problem was with one. I asked eBay to delite the negative feedback of the item that I and the buyer said was fine, but they refuse. what's up with that?

How to increase my sale

Hello I recently started selling antiques and collectibles on eBay. I started doing this because I am a single father that got laid off from my job and have not been having any luck finding a new one in this economy. I have been doing ok sales wise, but a lot of things I am listing are not selling. This is killing my profits and I was just wondering if any one could give me advise on how to create more traffic to my items and increase the number of listings to sales that I am getting. I would like to create a store but I don't want to do this and then not have enough sales to pay the fee of having the store. How to build an ebay business??

I've have read several different places about the USPS Scan Form. How great it is. Your customers can track their packages easier. It confirms that your packages were picked up. BLAH BLAH BLAH... I've also heard that PayPal doesn't support the scan form. That PayPal (and eBay) doesn't help their sellers when printing postage. BLAH BLAH BLAH.... So, what is the real deal???? Google Not Allowing Feeds~Says Ebay Responsible Now?

Hello, We're happy to let you know that as of September 3rd, individual sellers on marketplaces no longer need to submit feeds to Google Product Search. Going forward, marketplaces will be responsible for submitting a feed of all their sellers' items, so we will be retiring your account to avoid duplicate entries on Product Search. eBay will also be responsible for ensuring that your feeds are up-to-date and compliant with our policies. The feed on ebay only has 80 items out of 140, did we miss something?

Auctioning Musical Instruments with Low Starting Bid

Recently, I started a low volume eBay business reselling used intermediate and professional (not student level) musical instruments using the auction form of listing. It seems that quite a few sellers in this specialty place a low starting bid of $1.00 when auctioning a high end musical instrument procured at a cost of $900 or greater. However, I do not understand how they can run the risk of incurring a substantial loss should the winning bid be significantly less that the cost of procuring the instrument. How can you run a profitable business while assuming this much risk? Thoughts anyone?

Affiliate Help?

Hello, All, Well, I'm slowly slogging through the process of setting up an affiliate website. But I am getting there!! Just wondering if eBay has any resources for affiliates anywhere, I've been unable to find them. I don't really have any specific questions right now, just want to read and learn more about having an affiliate business. I must say, I feel a bit like an eBay parasite, hoping to profit from the eBay business without actually selling anything, although the search for wholesalers does continue! Anyway, if anyone knows of any good resources for helping those trying to build affiliate businesses, please let me know. I would truly appreciate it! Peace, Tom

Best way to list

I just opened my store and have had a few sales which is great. I'm currently working with a designer to give it a better look and can't wait to show that off. But here's my problem - I sell rock and roll pictures and each picture can be purchased in 3 sizes (8x10, 11x14 and 16x20) at different prices or in 3 different forms (prints, foam or mat or framed) at different price points. Based on eBay rules I must list each one as a seperate auction which really adds up quickly. I'm wondering is I should just list one size on eBay and list the rest on a seperate website? Has anyone had luck getting the 2 sites to play off each other? How do you market then? I don't think I want to use prostore's so I'm looking for recommendations for some that are straight-forward

is it possible?

hi all, i've been on ebay for years, but never ever took it seriously, i've always played around with a few items here and there i'll be an open book since you all are fellow ebayers can you give me some advice? i'm a single mom, last year this time, i met the man that i thought was the answer to all my prayers...he turned out to be nothing short of a psychopath. he totally charmed his way into my life, my home, my bank account. before long, i had invited him to live with me and my son. of course he made a lot of promises, i live in an old victorian and it needs a ton of work, so he was very gung-ho about fixing it up and re-painting it and making an add-on office..etc.etc. i thought i was in heaven and so much in love with him....well, since he gave me a ring, and he was doing so much work on the house, we decided to re-finance, i put his name on the deed...i know, you are screaming, what an idiot. . . . .and i was to have done something like that....well, long story short, he ended up walking out on me, taking back the ring and only (since he is such a really nice guy...do you hear the sarcasm in my voice!) he agreed to help me with the mortgage, but only for 6 months, would he agree to pay for 1/2 the mortgage. he is really paying me back the amount that he tapped off of the mortgage to pay his personal bills, in reality he took about 12K but is paying back around 9K, my friends tell me to take what i can get and move on...i agree, and so does the atty. i contacted. here is the problem. i sell mostly antiques on ebay. in order for me to survive, not get ahead or make it, or save money, just survive and pay LONG ISLAND taxes, the mortgage, heating, etc. etc. i have to make at least.....LEAST 3K a MONTH on ebay. i wake up at 2 am. in a panic attack, i've lost over 20 pounds in 2 1/2 months..i'm a nervous wreck. i've never taken ebay that seriously and to tell you the truth i don't know that i can keep it up...or can i? is it possible to make that kind of money on ebay every single month? i'm almost 50, so time is not on my side. i have a 12 year old son to raise. i get money from his dad and it is alot, but it isn't enough for all that i need, i have to earn the rest of it. i don't want to lose my house, it is the house my kids grew up in and i've had it for 18 years. yet, if i can't come up with the mortgage payments, then i will in fact lose my house. he has agreed to pay 1/2 until only december of this year, after that, for the next 29 1/2 years it's all on my lap. i can't get him off the deed yet, cause i can't afford to refinance. banks don't consider ebay a real job. plus the closing costs would make my loan go up even higher and then the monthly amount would go up even higher than it already is. as it is, i'm strapped. every single penny is alloted to a bill. i'm so scared i can't see straight. i try to list every day on ebay, but my questions are, is it possible to make that kind of money on ebay? if so, then how do you structure your day? how do you find time to photograph, post, list, pack up ebay and yet, find time to be with your family, spend time with your children and even clean the house? i'm finding it so hard to juggle it all, yet at the same time, i'm trying to deal with depression, fear and uncertainty over my future. i have no living family, they have all passed away, so basically, if i fall down, i'm down, there is no one to go to...i'm in a total panic over what to do. i have no savings account, i'm 49, a single mom, no schooling, so i don't have any real job skills, and there is no prince charming to come and save me. the psychopath ex fiancee' is already with someone new and has told me to "MOVE ON" in my life and get over him, he has left a trail of destruction behind him. i found out that he did the same thing to his last wife and she in fact ended up having to sell her home and she lost everything. he took the money from that re-fiance and upped his lawm mowing business. he is a master at lying and deceiving...the new girlfriend (he told me) and him are thinking of having a baby together...i can't believe he has moved on so quickly (just 2 1/2 months later) and that he found another willing victim to his schemes! so far, i made the first month, with a lot of work, the second month, in august, i fell apart and spent much of the time crying..this month, i'm so far 1/2 of the way there, but i have so much more to post. i have a house full of antiques that i can sell, but it's a huge job for just me, and i'm it...there is no one else to help me out with any of this. i started out on ebay hoping to sell pillows and make money that way, but i don't have time for sewing now. any suggestions that you have would be heart felt at this time. thanks so much for reading and i hope to hear back from you. Confusion... Blackthrone, Selling Manager Pro, Accounting Assistant?

I'm just confused. I know what I want a program to do, but can't figure out which of these does the same. Plus, one comes WITH a store for free (I think Seller Manager) but not the others. I'm so confused as to what would work best for me. We are wanting to list more often, working our way to Power Seller status, but the record keeping, timing auctions, listing, are taking up too much time. I want a program that keeps records. That automatically pops in the auction name, item, buyers name, address, payment due/paid. Stuff like that. Do these programs do all that or do I have to manually add the info? I want it to show costs, fees, profit, loss. I like having a monthly report showing that or a running total in the table. I want to be able to download it to my computer to print. I want it to send emails when the person's item is shipping, and leave feedback. I also want an ebay store, and want to automatically pop things in there that don't sell in auctions. Am I pipe-dreaming or do any of these do all this AND give me a store?

Qualifying for a resale certificate from a home business??

I've done some research for obtaining a resale certificate to buy wholesale. A company I'm interested in buying wholesale from requires getting the resale certificate and tax id number. I found the form for my state, if i plan on running a home-based business from ebay do i still qualify for a resale certificate? In the form it asks for an address, would i just give them my home address or do i have to have an actual "real" business to get one? Or would they need an web address to reference to?? Help! What Should I do?!

Alright, I've got a problem. On August 20th, I one of my products sold. Anyways, for five days straight, I e-mailed the person asking how and when they would be paying. Finally, on the Monday the 27th, they e-mailed me back saying they would pay by Friday. So, I said, "Ok, sounds good. However, if you do not complete the payment by Friday I will have to file an item not paid dispute and leave you negative feedback." Then, today he just e-mailed me back with this, "Send me the negative feedback, i don't care. you need to be more patient with a cheap transaction of 25.00, that's not a transaction of 10,000.00 and then I'm not going to pay the item because I don't accept bad treats from nobody. Thanks." ... Just because it wasn't something very expensive, doesn't mean that I don't expect payment in a timely manner! I don't think that I treated him harsh whatsoever. I was always firm, but polite. I don't know what to do. I just filed an item not paid. But, I don't really want to leave him negative feedback because I don't want any negative on my account. Any suggestions? Anybody ever have an experience like this?

Buyers taking time to pay

Hi, I've had several buyers take a long time to pay for their purchases. Some folks start the checkout process and then I wait for 1-2 weeks in limbo while they decide whether or not they need more or less yarn to finish their project than expected. One buyer right now, is on vacation and I am holding $200 of yarn until she returns because she does not want to pay via "internet cafe". Are there any incentives to get buyers to pay when they make their purchases or to pay promptly? I personally would never ask a retailer to hold several hundred dollars of merchandise for weeks while I decide what to do. Any thoughts? Tina Bead

I know that there are pretty strict rules about email marketing here at ebay and that customers have to opt-in. I've had the "sign up for my newsletter" link up there for quite some time, but I was wondering if I would be allowed to use an outside of ebay company for this? Constant contact has html buttons that will give surfers an option to opt-in to my newsletter from my website, myspace, etc., would I be allowed to put this into my listing on ebay? I'd prefer to go this route because the emails are much more dynamic and more info is given on the reports. I was just wondering what the catch is with selling cheap ebooks? I see some for .01, some for .79, and some for .99 and free shipping, what is the point? After Ebay fees and Paypal fees there is no profit, am I missing something?

Template recommendations

Can anyone personally recommend someone that makes templates? I think I'm finally to the point where I need to have a template made and I hate to just randomly pick somebody from an ebay list of approved partners! I'm hoping one of you has used someone that you thought did a really awesome job and would like to push a little work in their direction. Thanks in advance! Frank

Auction Management

I am looking to find a different auction management software. I have used Auctiva, then Inkfrog which has allot of features that I do like. Such as automated email notification and feedback. But you cannot edit it if the payment information is incorrect after auction end. It's just not quite all I would like to see. I have been investagating ChannelMax (free) and Meridian (cheap) websites, which I cannot find anything on the boards about. And of course Vendio, seems to be used by several sellers. Naturally I am looking for inexpensive, hosted or desktop. All input would be appreciated.

Should I expand my shipping to Europe?

I have had a store for about a year now. I started out shipping to the United States only. Then expanded to Canada. I am now in my comfort zone with Canada. I had a potential buyer contact me about shipping a book to Europe. They are in the Netherlands. How much different is shipping to europe than to Canada? Buyer said global flat rate priority envelope is $10. Does this sound right? I haven't checked yet. This item is inexpensive. It wouldn't break the bank if I loss it. Is shipping international worth the headaches? Thanks Everyone Cheryl

Why has their members search wothless now

I've noticed with my winners that when I've checked their previous auctions esp with those that haven't paid me to see if they also won another and I've noticed they only include a FEW items in the search NOW and I don't see mine in there - WHAT A WASTE - IF THEY HAVE A 30 DAY SEARCH - HAVE IT COMPLETE OR NOT AT ALL. If the buyers bids on 50 items and they show 5 what good is that!!!!

Anyone familiar with Mahibay dropship/business program?

I came across the above website and made an inquiry. They claim to represent 50 million potential dropship products. They are asking a hefty investment of at least $5000 to sign up with their deluxe package which includes a turnkey online story. Anybody familiar with them and their ability to deliver on what they claim is an "almost guaranteed" investment?

How To Put~ Store Description~Into Your Store

Since many people have asked other store owners to check their sites I thought I would write about this one common mistake. Many are not using their Store Description to it's best advantage. These are the words that are used in search to pull up what makes your store special. If you don't have imitation items say that, if you are unique in your field write that. Think like a buyer when writing your description, what words would you use to search for your items? This is the sequence to put your store description in: First: Check to make sure you have the correct setting for logo being on the top left for the input of this description,(make sure you don't have it set to go the whole length!) Check under Theme Display (2nd section under Store Design)go to Change to another Theme and make sure you are using the first selection Classic Left go to 1. Manage my Store 2. click on Store Design 2. click on Display Settings 3. in line 4 Store Description 4. click change (top right) 5. under Basic information you can add your description here. This should be description not just a series of words to attract people to your store that would be considered spamming. I just thought since I've suggested people check this area that I'd share that here. Best of luck in your stores, and if I've made a mistake jump in and fix it....no ego here! Cathy

How do I get my store logo in the stores search

I was browsing around and noticed some stores have a small logo next to them when you search ebay stores for products. How do you get your logo in there? Do you have to set your store to use the logo in Picture manager? If so, GRRR... b/c the quality always goes down when I upload to there but the logo is in there.

excuse me while I vent about this poor excuse of a company. I just had 3 listings pulled for a copyright violation. Meaning they think they are bootlegs. The item was a preorder due out on October 9. Clearly within ebays preorder policy. Arrgghh! this company makes me mad. And no help from powerseller support either.. . . False Completed Sale Reported Pricing

This posting DOES NOT apply to Buy-It-Now, Fixed Price or single bid auctions. I have been weighing whether or not to sell items on eBay regularly. Some friends do sell all the time. Like everyone else, I started some research for eBay winning bid pricings on various products just to get some idea what I could sell and what the general sales prices might be. This would be while looking at possible suppliers and costs. When performing completed sale searches, I noticed two issues. First, it takes several hours for completed sales to show up in the search, i.e. it can take 6 to 12 hours after close of an auction for that auction to show up in a completed sale search. Second and very strange. When performing completed sales search on eBay, I noticed discrepancies on reported closing or winning bid amounts. The general completed sale search page stated one final price. But when the actual auction page was viewed, the final sale price was higher. The discrepancies were sometimes 25 to 50% higher for the actual final price. This discrepancy did not occur for B-I-N, Fixed or single bid auctions. It only happened for multiple bid auctions. Of course, I did not check each and every multiple bid auction

Advice really appreciated...slow store

Hello - I've been running my store for about 8 months now and have tried selling our products as single items and as lots. I can't say there's been a huge difference between the results. Our brand is well known in England but not at all in the US or Canada. I send items to auction etc to try to generate traffic, but would love some feedback on my store. Thanks so much.

categories

Hello, Started wondering today about if the Categories on the main store page are picked up by say search engines or ebay search. What I mean is this- as you can see from my logo, I sell Polish Pottery stoneware. I had the front page of the store set to show all my categories as listed like this- dinner plates dessert plates cups/mugs and so on, but today I changed it to say this polish pottery dinner plates and so on for each categorie. But as I look at it now, it seems so cluttered that way. So before I change it back, was just wondering if it was better to leave it the new way, if it shows up better in the search. Thanks in advance for any help here. Sheryl

How to think about customer complaints.

I read this and thought it was good, in an ebook I just bought about selling postcards. When a customer complains to you; think of it as if you are the boss and they are complaining about an employee of yours, even if you are a one man (woman)shop. Don't take it personally, remember that the goal here is to exchange your goods for the customers money. And also that the customer is not just the $5 sale he is complaining about, he is a human being and therefore worthy of consideration even though his complaint may not be.. Further, if his complaint is well handled he (she) may represent hundreds of dollars in future long term repeat business. Thats how I have always thought about it, but that author expressed it very clearly. Need feedbackEnglish to French translation policies and listings: USEFUL???

Hello everyone from Montreal, I am a full time freelance translator, English to French, and I sell Pottery and Glass on Ebay. I would like the opinions of sellers on the potential of offering an English to French translation service for Ebay sellers to post their policies, some high-end listings maybe etc in French to tap into the European/Quebec market. Is this something that would interest you as a seller if the price was extremely reasonable (well below market value) and an Xfast turnaround (less than 24 hours). I am testing it in my store right now but I don't get a lot of hits. Also, what is your experience in having to answer questions from buyers in French? Would a fee for monthly translation service for questions or a pay-per-question service appeal to you? Thank you in advance, your feedback is much appreciated.

100,000 DVD's

I am a casual seller here and started selling for friends of mine. Next thing, my number is getting past to others and I like doing it while making the extra cash. I got a phone call from someone who is closing a video store. He wants me to sell the entire inventory of movies. Its a very large task but luckily, he owns the complex and does not have to worry about paying rent while the store is closed. This gives me some luxury of time. My question is: Is there any program/hardware that I can use for the listings that would allow me to utilize a scanner to run the ISBN numbers on the back of the boxes and insert the text on each movie that Ebay provides. I would do this instead of typing in the numbers manually. This would also eliminate any photo taking and just run off a template. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

How to pay someone to list for you

I am sure this has been brought up before but I cannot find it. Sorry. I want to hire 2 people to help me list. They will be doing it part time from home. Is it best to pay them so much per item and if so how much? Or by the hour. Since they will be working from home and listing between watching the kids and other household things it may be hard for them to keep track of the hours. Or is there another way to figure how much to pay? Thank you all very much in advance for your help.

Why Sellers Love eBay and Hate eBay - AND a Solution

This is from a blog post I saw today: It is an open letter to eBay. I hope they read it. If you sell on eBay and you agree with this letter please click the "comments" link below and leave a respectful, courteous reply. We will not approve comments that get "hateful". A simple "I agree" will do or you can say more - it's up to you. I am just trying to communicate a simple message to those at eBay that need to hear us. There's power in great numbers...let's get their attention. Dear eBay, We love you. We really do. You represent opportunity for every level of entrepreneur from the stay home mom to the multi-million dollar corporation that wants to go global. You've changed the way business is done on the Internet. You've helped put household budgets in the black across the globe. BUT... But as the editor of one of the most read eBay newsletters on the planet with nearly 100,000 subscribers (I won't say which one because that's not the point) I have been noticing a very scary trend - and I have a proposed solution. This blog post is an open letter to eBay.com (Specifically addressed to Bill Cobb, Rob Chestnut, Meg Whitman, and any decision makers that care about eBay sellers): You are making it harder and harder for eBay sellers to sleep well at night. I just got yet another email today from an experienced eBay seller that was banned from ever using eBay again for what seems to be no justifiable reason. I get about one every week or so that sounds just like it. - I'm not talking about the JUSTIFIED suspension where someone intentionally broke the rules. - I'm not talking about the clueless new sellers on eBay that don't realize they are running a "real business". - I'm not talking about sellers that violate (even accidentally) copyright laws or your Vero program. - I'm not talking about the JUSTIFIED suspension that you see posted on the "hate eBay" sites. - I'm not even talking about those that just didn't take the time to read the policies (although there are a few gray areas we need to talk about) before they "experimented" with a new strategy that crossed the line. I'm ONLY talking about the cases where EXPERIENCED, HONEST, GOOD people with NOTHING CLOSE TO A POLICY VIOLATION are SHUT DOWN without recourse. I'm sure it's just a fraction of a percentage of sellers that get treated this way, but you have to understand...it's scary to see it happen when many of these people's livelihoods were dependent on having access to your site before they got word from "eBay Trust and Safety" of the judgment against them. I've talked with eBay sellers at all levels. One of the most recent conversations was with a seller that is in your top 10 in number of transactions monthly. They all say the same thing though. It usually goes something like this: "I wonder if eBay will randomly pull the plug some day..." "It's harder to figure out eBay than it is to figure out the IRS..." "I really need to be LESS eBay reliant - they could shut me down so easily it's scary..." These aren't words I put into their mouths. My proposed solution: We need an eBay seller "Tenure" program. In as simple terms as possible here's how it would work: Once you prove yourself to be an HONEST, RELIABLE, CARING member of the eBay seller community you are granted the honor of "tenure" and you will NEVER be blind sided by a "shut down". Set the bar high eBay. Give us something to work for. We don't mind. Don't let just anyone into the tenure program. But once we are "in" give us the courtesy of a phone call and a chance to explain our side of any situation that arises. Give us a chance to "fix" it. Give us a chance to change course if necessary. I recently attended an eBay "town hall" meeting by invitation. Rob Chestnut, Bill Cobb and a handful of other good people were there representing eBay. It was time well spent. The best question that night though (it drew an applause unlike any other I recall from the crowd) came from a sweet middle aged mom seated in the back of the room. Her question for the eBay executive panel was this: "I'm just so nervous about being shut down some day by eBay. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but I've really become quite dependent on the income my eBay business is bringing my family. Is there anything I can do to SLEEP BETTER (her exact words) and be sure I won't be shut down for doing something wrong one day?" To be honest with you Bill Cobb, the answer you gave didn't do much to put anyone in the room at ease. You had great intentions, but the heart of the issue wasn't addressed. A better answer would have been... "Work towards getting your eBay tenure. We NEVER shut down a tenured eBay seller unless there is extreme and unresolvable issues in play. You'll get every chance to correct the situation and you'll have a live rep assigned to your case before we even think of passing a judgment against your account." Finally eBay executives, please don't play the "budget" card on this one. We aren't stupid. We know you can't possibly offer tenure to tens of thousands of eBay sellers and we aren't asking for that. We just want something to work towards. Like I said - set the bar high and let us aim for it. Hopefully the number of comments this blog gets as word spreads will be evidence for you of the need for such a program

How does one become a certified eBay Education Specialist?

I've been away from eBay for awhile. Several years in fact. Things have changed here. When I started there was the community - and we did a lot to help each other. Now there are all these tutorials available. I am certain they help many, however I still find friends and folks interested in joining eBay that are a bit intimidated with the site and all the new additions. I find the layout a bit cluttered at times and difficult to navigate, but I am not new to eBay so I work my way through it. Other folks seem to get put off. Therefore I thought I would get back into my sales and helping others with theirs by just helping them get started. I would like to be "official" in some way. And I noticed there is one person in my area that has been "certified" as an "Education Specialist" and also claims membership in something called "Voices of the Community" what ever that is. I suppose at this point many of you are saying to yourself.. "Gee she has been away a long time to not know these things". You would be right. It's been about 7 years so I could use some help on a few things. A leg back up as it were. I would be most grateful to any anyone who can give me a heads up on how to catch up and become a Education Specialist.. "officially" - in order to help folks get started who are a bit computer shy and pop into eBay now and become a bit overwhelmed. Thanks for the help. - EAJ
