shipping signature

Don't most shippers have a signature option that a seller could require a buyer to pay for to verify that an item got delivered? Does ebay frown upon that as well? As a seller it seems that would be our only proof that an item got delivered, especially with USPS. Does USPS flat rate have proof of delivery/signature as an added option? FEDEX and UPS would have some sort of record, so it shouldn't be an issue, right?. I'm new to this, so please bear with my goofy questions. How many use that? I guess it would depend on the value of the item, your customer base, past experience, etc. But from some of the horror stories I have heard about buyers false claims, etc, it seems to be one of the few means of defense.
